Your finance data, connected to your AI assistant
xpnAI connects your Xero organisations to the AI assistant you already use. Ask questions about your finances, investigate transactions and export data without uploading a new spreadsheet for every conversation.
You work in your assistant, such as Claude Code, ChatGPT or Codex. xpnAI supplies the finance data through MCP, a standard that lets AI assistants connect to other services. In xpnAI, you manage the Xero connections, choose who can access your Workspace and control each assistant’s access.
What you can do
- Explore general ledger transactions, receivables, payables, bank transactions and fixed assets.
- Ask your assistant to compare periods, investigate balances or prepare an analysis using the available data.
- Export transactions for further work in a spreadsheet or another analysis tool.
- Give an assistant permission to create draft manual journals for you to review and post in Xero.
- Give an assistant permission to create, update and archive accounts and tracking settings in Xero, including helping you align charts across organisations.
Your assistant’s answers depend on your request and the data it retrieves. Ask it to state the organisations, dates and currencies used, and check the supporting transactions before relying on a conclusion.
How it works
- Connect Xero to a Workspace. A Workspace holds the organisations and finance data shared with its members. You can connect more than one Xero organisation.
- Connect your assistant to that Workspace. Sign in to xpnAI, choose the Workspace and review the access requested by the assistant.
- Ask for the work you need. Your assistant retrieves data through xpnAI and presents the result in your conversation.
xpnAI refreshes imported finance data hourly. You can also request a refresh yourself. Transaction analysis uses the latest imported data; authorised account and tracking changes take effect directly in Xero. Journals created by an assistant always remain drafts until you post them in Xero.
Your Workspace and subscription
Each person signs in with their own account and authorises their own assistant connection. A normal member can work with the Workspace’s finance data without an administrator role. Workspace Administrators manage people and invitations. Subscription Administrators manage billing and can add Workspaces to a paid subscription.
The MCP subscription includes the connections and finance tasks described in this help site. Your assistant account and its usage limits are separate from your xpnAI subscription.
Where to start
Getting started takes you from creating or joining a Workspace to asking your first question.
If your Workspace is already ready, go straight to Connect an MCP client. For team setup, see Roles and access.
